The year around

Most tax offices put the lights out on the sixteenth of April. That is when a good half of the work actually starts.

  • January – April Filing season Individual and business returns, e-filed, with your refund going straight to your account.
  • May – August The letters season IRS notices, back taxes, amended returns and the years somebody never got round to filing.
  • September – December Planning and quarterlies Estimated payments, year-end planning, and getting the books straight before January arrives.
  • Every month Bookkeeping and payroll For the small businesses who would rather hand it over than spend Sunday night on it.

What I do

Sit down with a person, not a kiosk. You will know what it costs before anything starts.

Questions people ask

Do I need an appointment?

It is much the better way — book a slot above and you will not be waiting. If you need a time outside nine to five, ask and something can usually be arranged.

What should I bring with me?

A valid photo ID that has not expired, Social Security cards for everyone on the return, your W-2s and any 1099s, last year's return if you have it, and your bank details if you want your refund deposited straight in. If you are claiming a child, bring something that shows they lived with you — school, medical or childcare records all do the job.

Can I send everything instead of coming in?

Yes. Use the TaxesToGo app above. Photograph your paperwork and it comes through to me securely, and we can do the whole thing by message if that suits you better.

Is it safe to send my information?

Through the app, yes — that is what it is built for. Through this website, no, and I would rather say so plainly. Never put a Social Security number, a date of birth, an IP PIN or a bank account into a web form or an email, mine included. The booking form above asks for your name, your phone number and a time, and nothing else.

I got a letter from the IRS. Can you help?

Yes, and the sooner the better. Bring the letter with you, envelope and all. Most of them are far less frightening than they read, and nearly all of them have a deadline printed on them.

I have not filed for a few years.

You are not the first and you will not be the last. It gets sorted one year at a time, and it is very much better to come in than to keep not coming in.

What does it cost?

It depends on the return — a single W-2 is not the same job as a business with a Schedule C. You will be told the price before any work starts, not afterwards.

Do you only do taxes in tax season?

No, and that is rather the whole point. Bookkeeping, payroll, quarterly estimates, IRS letters and back taxes carry on all twelve months.

Keep in touch

A note when the filing dates come round, when the rules change, and when it is time to book. Nothing else, and you can stop it whenever you like.
